My concentration is here to show you all the people I think are really cool, including, my best friend, some other random friends, perhaps a couple of my family members, and most importantly myself. These persons were chosen because of their importance in my life, many I would not be able to live without (I couldn't live without me). In each painting the subject is surrounded by a flower and a solid color – this flower and color are the favorite of the subject, allowing my friends to essentially pick their color scheme. For I used the background to help me choose which colors I would enhance on the face and/or the color of the clothing. To let you in on a little secret – portraits/paintings are not necessarily my strongest skill, although as I continued to grow and change with my concentration I learned how to manipulate my tools in order to create a slightly fantastical look to each individual. Within the first few works I was quite free with my brushstrokes and use of color creating a very stylized work, however as the year progressed I began to refine my skill and test my abilities through attempts to continuously strive toward increasingly realistic likenesses. Vincent Van Gough (I assume you have heard of him) was a post-impressionist I looked toward his work as a influence upon my own. Van Gough always managed to capture the air of the subject of his pieces, which I truly wanted to encompass within mine. All my chosen subjects are bright and happy people, young and full of life, I strove to make this seen through my concentration.
